A number of municipalities in Andalucia still have a 14-day COVID-19 incidence rate of more than 1,000 infections per 100,000 inhabitants. Despite the closure of all non-essential activity, Ronda, Cañete la Real, Algatocín, Benaoján, Serrato and Montejaque are still seeing this high incidence rate.
The rate in Villanueva del Trabuco has fallen to 979, but businesses in the area will keep their shutters down until Thursday at the earliest. This is when the Junta de Andalucia will review the containment measures.
In Árchez, the rate is above a thousand yet non-essential activity is still open. This number jumped from less than 500 cases last Friday to 1,298 this week. Just four infections have been detected in the last seven days, but this is enough to raise the incidence rate.
Small towns and villages can easily see their numbers rise. The Junta de Andalucia may order the closure of businesses if the rate is still high in Árchez by this Thursday. They may also maintain the municipal border closure for all non-essential travel.
The incidence rate in larger towns such as Malaga, Marbella and Estepona has fallen below 1,000, which means that all non-essential activity has started once again.
