The Alta Velocidad Española (AVA) will connect Malaga and Granada by the end of the year or early 2021. An intrinsic part to this progress is the new Antequera-Ciudad station, which will allow service to commence. This is now eighty percent complete. This update was confirmed by The Administrador de Infraestructuras Ferroviarias (Adif). The Spanish organisation is undertaking the project and has reassured that station building, platforms, access roads and parking areas are all ready.
Furthermore, the passenger building’s structure, roof, panelling, lifts and escalators are finished. And soon to be ticked off the list is the curtain wall of the front and granite flooring.
Additionally, the roads and car parking area are done and the pedestrian access is well advanced. Train passengers will be able to cross underneath the tracks to get to their designated platforms through an underpass.
The Spanish national train operator, Renfe, declared that the station will open and services between Malaga and Granada will begin running soon. However, they are going to wait for safety permits the be granted before selling tickets.
