The national Met Office in Spain, Aemet has issued a yellow warning for heavy rain today, for parts of Malaga, particularly the Costa del Sol, Guadalhorce, and Serannía de Ronda regions. This will start at 10 am and run until 10 pm at night.
This is due to storm Celia which has been accompanied by the arrival of the calima. This means the rain falling from today looks more like mud. While Malaga will be affected to an extent, the worst affect area will be the east of the country, from Almeria through Valencia and Muricia to the Balearic Islands.
The rain that has already fallen in Malaga in the past two days, over 90 mm has been registered in 12 hours in Ardales. At El Cónsul, there has been 77 mm recorded. Some places have seen up to 151 mm per hour. The rainfall has been moderate to heavy. An orange warning was issued for Ronda, the Costa del Sol, and the Guadalhorce and this proved correct.
The yellow warning was issued for La Avarquía and Antequera and this was also proven correct. Malaga airport received a normal amount of rain and snowfall was primarily over 1,900 metres. This is a bit unusual for the time of year. From Thursday, the rain will begin to move to the east of the peninsula and start to affect other areas. From then until Sunday, only some isolated showers should be expected.
