17 Women Freed Following Sex Trafficking Bust

A total of 17 women have been rescued following a sex trafficking bust on the Costa del Sol. The operation started back in April 2021 and came about as a result of reports of a sex trafficking ring in Malaga. Detectives received an anonymous tip to the National Police’s Human Trafficking hotline.

The police have now arrested six individuals and they have said the women were forced to work for up to 24 hours a day in brothels in Mijas and Cartama in horrific conditions. Women were working in brothels that were disguised as hotels and there were strict security measures in place

These included surveillance cameras to control the establishment and asking for passwords upon entry. The police found 60 grams of cocaine, 50 grams of marijuana and hashish and €1,915 in cash upon their raids.

The police have emphasised they have a special phone number to report these kinds of cases and that the public should do so. The number is 900 105 090 and the email address is trata@policia.es. They can also be alerted on Twitter via the hashtag #contralatrata and by tagging the account @policia.
