Yellow and Amber Weather Alerts Put in Place for Costa del Sol and Malaga

Just yesterday, forecasters predicted moderate rainfall for this weekend in the Costa del Sol. Now, they have issued yellow and amber weather alerts for the Costa del Sol and Malaga with claims the waves could reach four metres high on the coast.

The arrival of the isolated depression is expected to bring a chance to Malaga province from today. While the depression is unpredictable and challenging, strong winds and fog are expected to begin on Friday and become more intense on Saturday.

Aemet, Spain’s Met Office activated the weather alerts from 6 pm on Friday the 25th as a result of the risks the dangerous waves could pose. They will raise this warning to amber between 8 am and 8 pm on Saturday. They are estimating force seven easterly winds and waves up to four metres high.

The storm is not expected to deliver much rain but Aemet has set a 70 percent chance of rain today in Malaga city, particularly after 6 pm. They expect this percentage to decrease on Friday and be more between 15 percent and 60 percent. A percentage of 35 percent is expected on Saturday and on Sunday, it has been estimated there will be a 45 percent chance of rainfall.

Temperatures are predicted to stay steady, however, the minimums will increase to between 12 and 14 degrees Celsius over the weekend. The maximum temperatures are expected to decrease slightly to between 17 and 18 degrees Celsius. Experts are saying locals should expect showers to last the entire weekend.

However, things can change given the unpredictability. Locals should be vigilant and pay attention to weather-related news as rainfall is expected until Monday.
