Despite rising numbers of the Omicron variant of COVID-19, bookings from British Tourists have encouraged many hoteliers to reopen their doors. These bookings have come following the UK’s announcement to lift all testing requirements for eligible fully vaccinated tourists arriving in the UK from 4 am on the 11th of February.
Aehcos, the Hoteliers Association made their own announcement about the surge in reservations by British tourists and that this is exciting hotels and as a result, they are bringing their reopening dates forward after having been closed for the winter period.
The president of Aehcos stated that this is optimistic data and it brings us closer to the recovery we have long been waiting for. The hospitality industry has been impacted from the moment COVID-19 arrived so it has to be a huge relief to them to know their business is sure to be taking off again.
Aehcos has suggested the first month of the year will end with around 42 percent of an occupation rate. This data represents a decline of 15% compared to January 2019. However, it comes above 2021 with an occupation rate of 16 percent.
They estimate next month will be similar and that the occupancy rate could increase to 44 percent or even 51 percent thanks to Valentine’s season. The president of Aehcos has urged this data to be a significantly positive sign that the hospitality industry is to experience a better year in 2022.
